Creep yourself out!!

Like scary stories? Sarah Waters' "The Little Stranger" is wonderfully creepy and really gets under your skin. Check out my Boston Globe review if you want more detail.

I am getting through it although I do hope there is a payoff more than knocks on the wall and smudges on the ceiling.

I'm not going to tell you... well, OK, I'll tell you there isn't a big payoff. But for me the creep factor just grows and grows and grows. Let's talk about it when you're done!

SPOILER ALERT-I do think we had an unreliable narrator here. And Farraday himself, either consciously or unconsciously, causes all the mischief and death. He is THE LITTLE STRANGER. At least that was my take. If he couldn't have Caroline and THE HUNDREDS, no one could and no one did. I think it was a pretty good payoff because she foisted a ghost on us when there wasn't one. But this is my reading only.

SPOILER ALERT

Patti - I agree: he was definitely involved somehow. I was wondering how much -- I mean, I wonder if he was actually unaware of his own influence? I also wondered for a while if he was actually dead - but I think not.
